The Adjustment

Night One: The Adventures of Kayla and Lucy

I'm sure it's not a huge deal for most people, but I have the house to myself for a week. Aside from my brief time at University, where I still technically had a roommate and no stove to cook on, this is sincerely a first for me.
I'm not entirely alone of course. Lucy has kindly volunteered to be my trusty sidekick. Well, mostly, since she's a puppy, she didn't have much of a choice but to stay behind with me while the family is on vacation. Although I can already see that she may take some liberties with my sympathetic nature and obvious affection for her. Case and point, she is currently hogging my pillow.
We're both doing our best to adjust as quickly as possibly to our new arrangement. Lucy is a little confused as to why her crate and bed are in the basement with me. And the noises on the TV occasionally make her think that everyone is home upstairs and we should investigate that possibility. I am trying to catch her up on what is going on in Once Upon a Time (which can be very difficult even if you're only half way through re-watching season one) and doing my best to learn to trust her to wander where I can't see her. So far she has yet to devour any of the basement baseboards, or fall in love with Prince Charming, like she did with Sam on Flashpoint. But the week is young, and I have high hopes for her. When it comes to Charming anyway. I'm pretty sure she knows to leave the baseboards alone.
It is a night of comfy pajamas, quiet time, and a mug of "Tall, Dark and Handsome" hot chocolate. Just the kind of night I need after a long week at work. And the perfect start to the long weekend. After all, when you have a Captain Hook t-shirt to cozy up in, laundry can just wait until tomorrow. Hmmm... perhaps Lucy will have an affinity for pirates. We girls do love our pirates. And Hook and hot chocolate are the only things tall, dark or handsome in my immediate future.
Lets see what the week holds. :) I'm off to fit in a couple more episodes of Once before trying to figure out how to either share my pillow with a puppy, or move her to her own bed.

P.S. Mindy, remind me to restock your marshmallows...
